# Enabling Business Dimensions

Once you have adjusted the initial reporting structure it is time to enable the business dimensions that you have specfied in the initial integration page.

Once the initial setup is complete, you can enable and structure your business dimensions (such as cost centers or departments) in Smartbooks. This allows you to analyse your financial data across multiple dimensions, using the same structure throughout reports and planning.

Business dimensions are configured in the **Cost Centers** section, located under the **Settings** tab.

If your accounting system uses business dimensions, you can enable this structure in Smartbooks. Once enabled, Smartbooks imports all available dimensions from your accounting software.

After activation, all imported cost centers will appear under the **“Other”** folder. At this stage, the structure reflects the raw setup from the accounting system and serves as a starting point for customization.

In Smartbooks, business dimensions are organised using a folder-based hierarchy. These folders define how cost centers are grouped and displayed in reports. You can create your own folders to match how your organization analyses performance. Each folder represents a logical grouping that will appear consistently across reports.

Cost centers can be reorganized by simply dragging and dropping them into different folders.

Smartbooks allows full flexibility in how business dimensions are structured:

* A folder can represent a **single cost center**
* Or multiple cost centers can be **aggregated into one folder**
* The same structure is reused across reporting and planning

This makes it possible to translate accounting-level dimensions into management-level insights.

You can further refine your structure at any time by adding new folders or rearranging existing ones. Any changes you make are immediately reflected in your reports, ensuring consistency across the platform.

An example of a business dimension structure is shown below.

By structuring business dimensions in Smartbooks, you ensure that:

* Reports reflect how the business is actually managed
* Accounting dimensions are transformed into meaningful analysis
* All reports use a single, consistent dimensional structure
