# I have an entity with a broken book year. How does Smartbooks handle this?

Smartbooks supports entities with a **broken (non-calendar) book year**. Each entity can use its own fiscal year structure, and reporting periods will follow that entity’s book year.

However, for **consolidated reporting**, all participating entities must use the **same reporting periods**. This means that, within a consolidation, entities need to be aligned on the same fiscal calendar to ensure consistent and comparable results.
